All generation have specific characteristics which they exhibit and that is because they tend to think in a certain pattern due to similar environment to grow up. The latest generation which is entering the work force is the generation Y and they are a world apart. People from their own generation or their parents understand them best. |
With them entering the work force we are dealing with baby boomers, generation X and generation Y who are quite different from each other under the same roof in an office. While generation X can still strike a balance with generation Y, to understand them is out of the scope of the baby boomers.
There are some classic characteristics that are exhibited by the generation Y and their beliefs are quite different from any other. When it comes to them, they believe that self expression is more important than self control. Violence is an acceptable means of communication and they cannot live in poverty. Even if they are not wealthy, it is important for them to lead a good lifestyle simply because they were brought up with the comforts.
Generation Y and work safety maybe complete mismatch. Because of their attitude to life and those around them, they may tend to disregard work safety completely. They feel that they know everything and if they are careful, nothing will happen to them. They tend not to pay attention to workplace safety issues, especially if they are told by someone who is older than them. And, in the bargain this generation not only endangers itself but also others who work alongside.
