It is generally harmless liquid and hence it will not cause any damage to the body. When the saline implant breaks and develops a leak, the contents will leak very quickly. This will cause the implant to deflate much like a balloon which loses the air when ruptured. This will cause the shape and the size of the breast to change within a short period. This is a clear sign that the saline implant has broken and the liquid has leaked out. An MRI or any other imaging technique is not called for verificaion.
One should be alert to look for any sign of infection in case the saline implant breaks. If the liquid inserted in the implant contains bacteria, fungus etc. this could lead to infection. One should look for signs of a rash or temperature for confirmation. A visit to a doctor may be required to confirm the leak in the saline implant.
