Conductive hearing loss is a condition where the sound is not transmitted to the inner ear or the outer ear or both. This is the second most common form of hearing loss. It is not a major disability or impairment because sound can still be heard by the inner ear. If the sound is loud enough, then there is no problem in terms of quality of hearing. Some of the major causes for conductive hearing loss are fluid in the middle ear, inner ear abnormalities, middle ear abnormalities or ear infection. Conductive hearing loss may not be a hard to treat condition. Sometimes the condition can improve by merely removing the wax from the ear and sometimes a hearing aid or surgery may be the alternative. However, age may also play a role in the treatment of this condition as younger the patient, faster the treatment and as age progresses the condition might just worsen.
Since conductive hearing loss is just partial hearing loss and it does not affect the day to day living of the patient, and since the condition is also easily treatable, it may not be considered as a disability. However, if the patient has a hearing loss, which is more common in older people, that may be a disability as in such cases, it may be difficult for the hearing disabled person to find a job or may be paid less or may have difficulty in communicating himself.
