Best States For Health Insurance

While many people think that health insurance in one state in the US is same as health insurance in another, this is not the fact. There are some states that offer better health insurance than others and if you happen to live in the best states for health insurance, you should consider yourself.

However, the governments in different states are ensuring that they set about rules so that insurance companies in states that do not have good health insurance can catch with the best states. One way that lawmakers are trying is by limiting insurance companies’ ability to cancel health policies of consumers who pay for their own insurance.

Many states are infamous for canceling policies and denying claims because of some excuse or the other. Buying individual health insurance is fast becoming a norm as more and more people are either self-employed or do not get coverage at work. It is estimated that in the US, there are more than 18 million people who opt to buy individual health insurance.

Individual health insurance requires people to submit many years worth of medical information and many insurance companies in different states use this information to decide how much they should charge. If a claimant lies or inadvertently omits information on an application, most states allow insurance companies to revoke the policy. This can usually happen within 2 years of granting it. If this happens, people have to pay for all the earlier medical care that was previously paid by the insurance company.

However, many insurance companies in different states have been taken to court for canceling policies so state lawmakers are now taking action to quell this. New Mexico, Connecticut and California are few states that have passed legislatures to help individuals so that the states can be among the best states for health insurance.

Some of the best states for health insurance in terms of Medicare are as follows:

  • Massachusetts
  • New York
  • Oregon
  • Washington
  • California
  • Rhode Island
  • Maryland
  • Wisconsin
  • Virginia
