Difference Between Menopause And Postmenopause
What is menopause? Menopause is a condition where the woman’s ovaries stop producing eggs, and the hormones and uterus in the body goes through many changes. After menopause, women do not get their periods anymore and are no longer capable of getting pregnant. |
What is post menopause? Post menopause is the stage that the body goes into after menopause has ceased and the woman has stopped ovulating and having her monthly menstrual cycle.
The difference between menopause and post menopause is extreme because of the changes that occur during the menopausal stage. In the menopausal stage, the hormone levels are completely unstable. Estrogen keeps surging and then reaching a nadir, until estrogen levels become permanently low. It is because of the constant fluctuation in estrogen levels that the women experience many of the associated symptoms of menopause. However, once the menopausal stage is over, the woman enters the post menopausal stage where estrogen and progesterone levels are constantly low.
The other major difference between menopause and post menopause is the ovulation and menstrual cycle. In menopause stage, ovulation and menstrual cycle become irregular until they stop completely. Once this happens, the woman is said to have entered the post menopausal stage.
In menopause, a woman's body is getting used to low hormone levels, while in post menopause, the body has already become used to low levels of hormones. Post menopause is also the stage where a woman finally accepts psychologically that her child bearing years are over and is able to come to terms with this fact.
