Effects Of Resuscitation On Elderly

Resuscitation refers to restarting a person's breathing and blood circulation after they stop by artificial means. An elderly person might stop breathing or his heart may stop because of health issues like a cardiac arrest. At that point resuscitation is very important because when the heart stops beating, the person will lose consciousness and in a few minutes his brain cells will begin to die. So, what can be the effects of resuscitation on elderly? Do they really benefit from resuscitation?

If the elderly person's brain cells have started to die, the effects of resuscitation on that elderly person could be quite bad. This is because after he is revived, he will suffer from some degree of brain damage, depending on how long it took to resuscitate him.

The effects of resuscitation on elderly will vary from one elderly person to the next. This is because it all depends on the state of the body. If the body is healthy, the resuscitation might not have any effects. However, if the body was frail, the elderly person might suffer from another attack, stroke or cardiac arrest.

Other effects of resuscitation on elderly are usually ignored because more importance is given to bringing the person back to life. Sometimes an electric shock may be given to stimulate the muscles of the body. This might cause burns on the elderly person's chest. However, more frequently CPR is given and this can cause the ribs or breastbone to fracture.

We all know that effects of resuscitation on elderly are there but at times the resuscitation is necessary when we are trying to save the lives of our loved ones.
