Example of Personal Development Plan

A personal development plan should be built on the basis that your personal development is solely your responsibility and you should consciously want this growth.

Only then can a personal development plan be successful and help you achieve all that you are destined to. In addition, a personal development plan forces you to write down your goals and this automatically helps in the likelihood of you achieving them.

Here is an example personal development plan that will help you formulate one for yourself.

  • Any personal development plan should always start with a goal. It pays to break down your goals based on the areas of development. The 6 main areas of personal development are mind, emotions, spiritual, physical, relationships and purpose.
  • One you have the areas of personal development jotted down, start brainstorming to come up with goals for each area. Give yourself a time limit for each category so that you know when it is time to move on to the next one. Make sure you ask yourself what is it that you want and this will help you set your goals.
  • After the brainstorming is completed for all the areas of personal development, start drawing up a timeline for each goal. This will allow you to set a time limit for achieving each goal.
  • Now from each area of personal development, select a goal where the timeline for achieving it is one year. Write one paragraph as to why it is important that you achieve these goals. This will help you understand the why and how to achieve each goal.

Now you have 5 goals that you need to achieve in the next 12 months. This should get you motivated enough to work towards those goals because based on your personal development plan these goals are of supreme importance to you and you know that it is quite likely that if you work hard enough, you will be capable of achieving them.
