They believe that the regions of the brain that are affected by the disease should be kept active. You can keep the entorhinal cortex and cerebral cortex active by meeting people and socializing with them. You can keep the hippocampus active by playing memory games or solving puzzles. That is why it is quite common to see older people being encouraged to take on a new hobby like learning to play a musical instrument as this reduces the chances of Alzheimer's.
