Can Chest Pain Cause By Gas

Chest pain is not always a serious problem. There are number of causes other than heart disease that may spark off chest pain. Stomach disorder is one such possible cause of chest pain and is often mistaken for angina or heart attack but it caused just due to accumulation of gas in the chest.

Sometimes during stomach pain gas moves into the chest area, stretching the nerve endings in the esophagus, and producing chest pains. Gas can cause discomfort, but it is usually located right in the middle of the chest and doesn’t move anywhere whereas chest pain from angina or heart attack may radiate to other parts of the body including shoulders, neck and arms.

If you are having chest pain due to gas, then a product that lets off gas will relieve the chest pain.

Chest pain caused can also be caused due to splenic flexure syndrome, a condition that occurs when air or gas accumulates in upper part of the colon. The accumulation of gas in upper part of colon causes pain in upper left abdomen. The pain often radiates to left chest area and can confuse with cardiovascular diseases. The pain caused due to splenic flexure syndrome can be excruciating and debilitating and may mimic that of heart attack (because of the proximity of splenic fixture to the heart).

In certain cases, gas gets accumulated at various points in your body after the surgery due to use of anesthetic agent during surgery. This accumulated gas then radiates to the chest area and can cause chest pain.

Any chest pain should not be taken lightly and must be thoroughly diagnosed, the older you get, the more important that becomes. Cardiologist usually evaluates chest pain by taking direct medical history of patients, performing physical examination and by analyzing the graphical representation of the cardiac cycle produced by an electrocardiograph.
