Risks To Health By Stress

Most of us experience stress at some time or the other. Stress is most likely to occur when the demands are high, when a person has low control or when a person has limited support available. While most of us can cope with stress and are able to handle it, there are others who cannot. These people end up developing chronic stress.

Unfortunately stress is not without risk. It puts great demands on our body and that is why doctors are always advising people to lower their stress levels or face the consequences. Risks to health by stress should be taken seriously because stress can really wreak a lot of damage on a person's body and mind.

When a person is stressed, all the body systems are affected. Stress affects the heart, blood vessels, immune system, lungs, digestive system, sensory organs and the brain. Stress increases the likelihood of developing heart disease and stroke. Researchers have found that people who suffer from chronic stress are at a higher risk of developing heart disease, which can be fatal, as time goes by. In addition, when a person is constantly stress, his body is busy producing stress hormones and the levels of these hormones are always high causing the person to have unhealthy habits like smoking, insomnia and not eating.

  • Depression
  • High blood pressure
